It is designed to provide a critical understanding of theoretical and practical developments in the evolution (and contested nature) of ‘community development’ in a comparative societal context. It provides an overview of the theory and practice of community development, including an historical review, an examination of contemporary issues and debates, theories of social change, methodological considerations, and examples of current community development initiatives.
